Shopping in the Vera Playa neighborhood
« on: May 16, 2012, 08:08:45 AM »
Next week, we're at Vera Playa and we're looking for places with shopping streets or centers in the Vera Playa neighborhood. Preferably accessible by public transport.

Just outside the Naturist Zone there is a large supermarket (Consum) that stocks all foods / household products etc.  On Hotel Street there is a gift shop (Bambara) that stocks normal holiday items.

There is a bus every hour to Garrucha and Vera, there you can find shops selling everything else, but these are small shops in towns, the 'out of town shopping centres' haven't really taken off, certainly in this part of Spain, so you have to shop the old fashioned way.  Market Day in Garrucha is Friday,  Vera is Saturday.  Villaricos has a lively thriving market on Sunday, it's a bike ride away, no buses (I think).  As with all markets, be vigilant of pick-pockets.

There is a Commercial Centre in Mojacar but it consists mainly of cafes, bars, clothes shops and jewellers etc, you stay on the bus after Garrucha and it goes to Mojacar.

Everywhere except the supermarkets has a siesta, 2pm to 5 or 5.30, then the shops stay open till about 8pm.  The market starts to pack up about 1pm.

The nearest Out of Town shopping centre is Aguilas and you can't get to it by public transport,  It is rather eerie shopping there, it is deserted, don't know how long it can last like that.
Happy owners and winter residents at Vera Playa, our piece of Naturist Paradise.

Hello Kborrey, further to J & M's info, the bus service to Garrucha is every hour at 17 mins. past the hour from Consum roundabout on the far side from Consum. The Vera service goes from the nearside of Consum roundabout at 37 mins past the hour, best to be at the bus stops 5 mins before due time. It is rare that the buses are early but it is an hour wait if you miss it. There are no bus shelters or bus stop signs as yet but the buses definitely stop at these two points.
